Behördenalltag im Homeoffice. Verwaltungshandeln jenseits des Amtes

Das Forschungsprojekt „Behördenalltag im Homeoffice. Verwaltungshandeln jenseits des Amtes“ beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, welche funktionale Stellung dem Arbeiten in den eigenen Wohnräumen und den dort angesiedelten informell organisierten Informations- und Vermittlungsdiensten in der frühneuzeitlichen Verwaltungspraxis zukamen.

Im Mittelpunkt steht die bislang kaum systematisch untersuchte Gruppe der mittleren Beamten in Zentralbehörden, der gerade in der Kommunikation zwischen Untertanen, Behörden und Herrscher eine zentrale Position zugewiesen werden muss. Entsprechend aufschlussreich dürfte dieser Zugriff für die Frage nach dem Gelingen von Administration und damit von Herrschaft im Alltag sein.

Administering from home. Administrative routines and practices beyond the office

The project “Administering from home. Administrative routines and practices beyond the office” explores the functional significance of work within the privacy of one’s home for the early-modern administrative practice.

At the center of this project are middle-grade officials of central administrative bodies, a social group that has not been studied systematically until now, but which played a key role in the communication between the subjects, the respective administrative bodies and the sovereign. Taking the informal setting of the officials’ homes into account, this approach, then, promises to shed new light on the question of how administration and rule could succeed in the daily life of the premodern era.
